New Zealand Women thrashed India Women by 62 runs to inflict India's first loss of the tournament in Match 8 of the ongoing Women's World Cup at the Seddon Park in Hamilton on Thursday. For New Zealand, Amy Satterthwaite and Amelia Kerr played splendidly to help the hosts post 260/9 in their 50 overs. Only medium pacer Pooja Vastrakar looked like a bowler who troubled the New Zealand batters with a four-wicket haul.
Chasing a target of 261 runs, India never really looked like they were in the chase with a low scoring rate and loss of wickets in regular intervals. Amelia against showcased her all-around skills with a three-for that buried any hopes of India reaching anywhere close to the target. One of the few positives that came out for India was the coming back to form of vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur who scored 71 runs. India will next play West Indies on March 12 at the same venue.
